Bad, Bad Practices!

I am not very happy with this article that I came across. With so much poverty, homeless individuals & a society that is currently facing challenges in making ends meet, comes this bright idea from retailers to do the OPPOSITE of what many of us would instinctlively want to do.

Apparently, a college student discovered that an H&M store (a retailer I enjoy) in NY was throwing away clothes and slashing them up so that they could not be worn if found by others. It appears Wal Mart items were also found in the area and as word of this article has spread, other former employees of retail stores are guilty of the same practices.

Why not just donate the items to people who need them? Seems so easy, right? Apparently, individuals who are familiar with these type of retail outlets have voiced their insight about such practices, stating that companies don't want to "de-value" their name brands by having homeless people wearing their items. WHAT? Come on....really? There are so many of us in the community who would easily volunteer our time to ASSIST these businesses in identifying organizations who could distribute clothes to individuals in need. Why not collaborate with your local community and non-profit orgs.? Some stores do claim to have a regular system of donating excess merchandise to local charity but it appears to be rare gesture. These practices are frustrating to hear and have made me aware of where I can keep my eyes open.
